I Spoke Too Soon...

Given my last post about Spring being right around the corner, I am shocked to say that I woke up to this view above.  Ha!  Yesterday The Weather Channel said 6-10" of snow for Monday, but I in no way believed them, given that we've had several threats of big snows with little to show for it AND it's officially Spring!

But alas, it's snowing outside, and this time, it's sticking quite a bit in our neighborhood.  Given the warmer weather rolling in, I think like last time the snow should mostly melt by the end of the day, but you never know!

Honestly it's quite appropriate for it to be snowing outside as I am currently working on a scene of the White House after a heavy snow.  My husband joked that it won't stop snowing until I finish it so I better get on it!   At least I have quite a bit of inspiration today, don't I?!

I'll be sure to post the scene after I'm done, so stay tuned and have a happy day whatever the weather is outside!

Springtime is Around the Corner!

Springtime in Monastero, oil on canvas, 30x40

Again I'm posting as I look outside at snow on the ground...with Spring just a few days away I guess Winter wants to give us a fond farewell!  Although I am ready for Spring, this is a really pretty snow as it has stuck to everything but the roads, making for a beautiful day that should clear up by the time the sun goes down.

Being a warm weather person, though, I am inclined to share this painting, my newest in my Lake Como series of Villa Monastero.  It's been a little over a year since I visited Lake Como, but I still remember how majestic the scenery is like it was yesterday.  Again if you ever have a chance to visit you really have to, it's absolutely gorgeous!

If you want to see more paintings, check out my website here. Hope you are enjoying whatever scenery is around you today!

Let it Snow?!

Monastery Overlook, oil on canvas, 16"x20"

Living in DC, you never know what the weather is going to hold.  We get a bit of everything, and today is no different.  While it's beautifully sunny outside right now (albeit a tad on the chilly side), a large storm is coming our way and is expected to dump at least 2-4 inches tonight and then an undetermined amount throughout the day tomorrow.  I'm really unsure of how this happened since it's March and we haven't seen much snow at all this year.  To add to the oddity, the local news announced that the peak of the cherry blossoms this year is in about three weeks.  Three weeks?!  Crazy!

So as I begin to hunker down, I figured I would post one of my recent paintings, this time of Madonna del Sasso in Locarno, Switzerland (close to the Italian border).  I really love this setting, atop a hill overlooking the lake.  This painting gave me the opportunity to experiment with roof lines this time as I haven't painted many scenes with this high of an angle.  This scene just captured me though, the peace and serenity of this old building nestled in the mountainside.  If you want to see another closeup as well as a few other of my pieces, check it out here!
