Virginia Rivals

Every year, Virginia Tech and the University of Virginia come together to settle an in-state rivalry over Thanksgiving weekend.  Last year, the Cavaliers hosted the much anticipated event at Scott Stadium, which is the inspiration for my painting.  This 11"x14" oil on canvas is a "man cave" staple, and special thanks go to my wonderful friends Jon and Jenn Yobs for their great eye and perfect seats to capture a great image to create a painting.

And if you're wondering about my personal allegiance, I went to the beautiful James Madison University (45 minutes west of Charlottesville).  However, my family is full of Hokies so it's mostly maroon and orange in my house. :-D

Sunset Beach Pontoon Bridge

Last weekend I was honored to attend the dedication and reception of the new Mannon C. Gore bridge in Sunset Beach, NC.  This new bridge is to replace the one lane swing bridge that currently connects Sunset Beach Island to the mainland.  While a bittersweet moment for those who love the quaintness of the pontoon bridge, everyone is excited to see the new two-lane infrastructure in place.
Above is my entry into the 'official' painting of the pontoon bridge contest.  I was thrilled to find out that it won first prize and will now hang in town hall as a memorial to the icon.  You can see more details of the dedication here: Brunswick Beacon Sunset Beach Bridge Dedication
