Sunset Beach Pontoon Bridge

Last weekend I was honored to attend the dedication and reception of the new Mannon C. Gore bridge in Sunset Beach, NC.  This new bridge is to replace the one lane swing bridge that currently connects Sunset Beach Island to the mainland.  While a bittersweet moment for those who love the quaintness of the pontoon bridge, everyone is excited to see the new two-lane infrastructure in place.
Above is my entry into the 'official' painting of the pontoon bridge contest.  I was thrilled to find out that it won first prize and will now hang in town hall as a memorial to the icon.  You can see more details of the dedication here: Brunswick Beacon Sunset Beach Bridge Dedication

The pontoon in Marina that I saw when I had my vacation there looks majestic. This sunset beach looks like the same but they have unique differences so I can’t compare those two. I hope you can post another picture of this pontoon that is larger than this so I can have a good view of it.

Hi Robert!

You can check out a bigger picture at my website: http://www.meredithhannonstudio.com/#Landscapes.html. If you are ever in Sunset Beach, you can find the original in the Town Hall.

Also, here are a few more pictures and some additional information about the bridge from Jo O'Keefe, who has been meticulous in chronicling the building of the causeway and preservation of the swing bridge! http://okeefes.org/Barrier_Islands/Sunset_Beach/Sunset_Beach_NC_Pontoon_Bridge/Sunset_beach_NC_Pontoon_Bridge.htm
